Some of my colleagues play peak-a-boo to see if babies are good at interacting with people. For example, do they smile back at your during the game? Is that true for different ages.

I often play spot the difference games with babies.. In one experiment I did this to see if they understood the ideas of SAME and DIFFERENT. It worked like this I showed the baby..

      A CUP & A CUP

      then

      A SHOE & A SHOE

      then

      A MUG & A MUG

this would carry on for a few more pairs and the babies would start to get bored and not pay any more attention to what i was showing them. At this point i show them

      A HAT & A TORCH

Here’s a picture explaining it from one of my scientific papers

4 month old babies just stayed bored but 8 month olds became interested again. We decided 4 month olds didn’t understand the idea.. but the eight month olds understood that there was

This might seem really easy to you but that is because you learnt it when you were 8 months old! But it isn’t that easy. We know this because other animals such as monkeys and pigeons have lots of trouble ever understanding the idea.
