I am doing a study at the moment of how babies start to learn language.. We play them a made up language read out by a computer for 3 minutes and then test them to see if they can recognize words from that language. Amazingly they can do it.. and even more amazingly they are better at it than their parents. I’ve tested adults as well as the babies and the babies are better.

The reason seems to be that adults are trying too hard. They are trying to reason out answer. But the babies just relax and let the sounds wash over them and let their subconscious do the work. they seem to pick up the patterns more easily.

So far my best results were when I was testing out my theory to see whether the dyes i am using would become fluorescent in the presence of certain cancer chemicals. i did these tests in the test tube and i discovered that they became fluorescent at tiny concentrations of the cancer chemicals. this could be really important because it means that my blood test could be used to diagnose patients with early stages of cancer because they have low concentrations of these cancer chemicals in their bloodstream compared to patients that have cancer in its late stages. it much easier to treat cancer in the early stages and the patients have a better chance of survival.
