Limestone is Calcium carbonate (CaCO3). You might have used limewater in your experiments in school? It is sometimes used to neutralise acids.

Limestone can be used for lots of things: it can be used to construct buildings, make glass, and it is also found in lots of everyday items like medicines, make up, toothpaste, paper and paint. You can also extract calcium from it to be used as food supplements.

A strange use for limestone is in thai cooking where they use it to make crispy batter!
