Hi, well have studied it at some points, like during GCSE biology, and also at undergraduate. However I don’t specialise in studying it now. One of my friends at the institute of zoology studied Giant Otter genetics in south America for his PhD which is pretty cool.
No I haven’t. I’m an engineer and molecular biologists and biochemists (I think) would study DNA. I’m quite envious because I think DNA is extremely interesting!
I haven’t ever done any genetic studies myself but we have several going on in our lab at the moment. There are some researchers who are looking for early indicators and risk signs for Autism. There isn’t a single gene for autism and it isn’t always easy to tell when a baby will go on to develop the condition so my colleagues are running a large study that looks for both early behavioural clues and possible genetic markers.
i studied dna and genetics at uni but i haven’t used it in my research. Although there is a lot of scientists that are studying the link between cancer and genetics because they have found that certain genes cause cancer and can be passed down to your children, such as breast cancer.
