I do like science fiction but i prefer reading it to watching it because the pictures are usually better in your imagination and it often takes the length of a book to develop the ideas that make it interesting.

My favourite authors are Neal Stephenson, Ursula Le Guin, Greg Egan and Iain M Banks.

There are a couple of good factual science books based on star trek called the physics of star trek and the biology of star trek.. where real scientists debate if the things in star trek could actually happen

Not much of a fan to be honest.

I take it you’re really into it then?….. I’m a scientist, beam me out of here.

No but I love Star Trek! Voyager is my favourite series because they are lost in the delta quadrant and always getting into trouble and meeting new species and stuff. Whereas Deep Space 9 they are just on a space station and there is kind of a limit on all the crazy stuff that could happen.

      Plus Janeway rocks!

“fantasize” ? like do I make up stories in my head about Star Trek ? No. But I do like Star Trek (and all the later shows & movies based on it.) and I had a crush on Captain Kirk in grade school…. I like SciFi in general, and sometimes after I watch a show I’ll think about it and think what would happen next, or what would I have done differently. For instance, right after I saw Avatar, I thought about what would happen next. The company would probably come back with reinforcements. Jake would teach the natives how to defend themselves. Eywa would learn about science from Grace, and Jake could talk to Grace through the trees and come up with ideas that Ewya could put into action by making new life-forms. When the company comes back it’ll be a whole new fight – with, of course, Pandora winning. Maybe Eywa would even learn about trade and work out how to get unobtainium to the company without mining. Of course, all the self-defense and unobtainium delivery would happen in an ecologically sustainable way…..maybe that counts as fantasizing ??
