Hmmm… not as fashion conscious as some of my mates….and all my shopping I tend to do in one big go as I don’t like spending ages going around busy shops. So am not that much of a fashion victim

Not really – I have about as much fashion sense as a warthog. Let me give you an example. In the 1970s I used to wear sandals with socks (until I realised no one would go out with me!)

But I am *very* interested in why some things are fashionable and other things not, and how fashions start and spread. For example, most mens’ shirt collars end in points. Why is that? They have no function so could be any shape whatsover. And my guess is that most men probably couldn’t care less whether they were pointy or rounded. Maybe it’s just an accident – some long forgotten toss-of-a-coin decision made my a shirt maker in the 18th century. I like the idea that some things are the way they are (like pointy shirt collars) because at some point in the past things went one way rather than the other, for no particular reason. This is called the butterfly effect and is part of chaos theory.

What’s your theory about why fashion is the way that it is?

Yes I like fashion! I like to have a relaxed, casual look and I like floaty tops and checked shirts and skinny jeans. My friends say I have a “girl next door” thing going on! I love getting dressed up for a party but prefer to look pretty chilled during the day, like I don’t really wear make up during the day, just a bit of mascara really.

Although after my operation this week, i have a huge cast on my hand and I can’t put jeans on or most of my tops so i’m wearing yoga pants and a gym t-shirt and slip on trainers – so i’m lot looking very good but i’d like to think I’m still rocking it!
