No I had funny science teachers! My Chemistry teacher was called Mr MacFarlane but he used to get us to call him Sandy and he used to go out for runs at lunch time and the hang his sweaty clothes on the radiators so the classroom would absolutely stink! And then sometimes he would get bored of what he was teaching us and just be like “let’s chuck some potassium in water! Yeah!”

And my Biology teacher was called Mr Bigham and he was approaching retirement… He used to forget what he was saying halfway through his sentences and you’d have to remind him what he was teaching you about! He also had the biggest comb over I have ever seen.

My other Biology teacher was called Mr Henderson and he was obsessed with writing things on the board in latin! He made us memorise our school motto in latin and repeat it every lesson!

Oy. I’ve had some truly horrendous teachers. I had one teacher who would sit at his desk, read through the chapter (to himself) and when he got to something he thought we should know he’d say “oh, yes, and this is important” or “this will be on the test” in a straight-faced, dead-pan, monotonous voice. All of the exam questions were homework questions straight out of the book, so if you did your homework you’d ace the exams. I had another teacher who wrote on the board and talked facing the board. He would get half-way through explaining a homework problem and then say “but the rest is easy…” and stop. But I also had wonderful teachers. One teacher was so interesting to listen to that the bell to end class would take me by surprise every time. He was funny and always had relevant or everyday examples. His multiple choice exam questions would sometimes have silly possibilities [ for instance: how big is an electron ? ….. a-d real possibilities or e) about the size of a basketball.] He was always ready to help people and give extra credit to help a poor grade (but you had to work for it !!)

No thankfully I didn’t. I think if I had had terrible science teachers I probably wouldn’t have ended up an engineer. It worries me alot that so much depends on having good teachers. I hope you don’t have any terrible teachers!

Some were better than others. I didn’t think any were terrible but then I really liked science! Mind you, I think chemistry teachers seemed to be more strict that physics teachers.

I didn;t have any terrible teachers. Teaching is really really hard as well. You can’t just transfer what you know and understand into other people’s heads. So part of the challenge of teaching is finding people that are willing to learn I would say – teaching is an interactive process and you can only learn through putting in effort yourself.
